The menhirs are of Neolithic origin and date to around 5000 B.C. It is known that they were "imported" into their current positions as they are of a Carboniferous Limestone, as opposed to the Jurassic Limestone that outcrops on the hills underfoot.
The Fortaleza de Sagres (Fortress of Sagres), located south-west of Sagres on a small headland with a length of about 1 km and steep cliffs, is a monument of national importance.
Sagres: Praia do Tonel

The walls of this little fort nestle to the steep rugged rocks, almost 50m above the sea. It has been part of the former fortifications around the strategical important harbour of Sagres and was destroyed by Francis Drake in 1587.
Cabo de São Vicente, Sagres
Cabo de São Vicente (Cape St.Vincent) near Sagres in Portugal and the Ponta de Sagres together form the south-western corner of the European continent. The cape consists of a steep cliff of about 69 m with almost no vegetation.
