Village (vila) and parish (freguesia) in the municipality (concelho) of Lagoa. The picturesque village is located on the mouth of the Arade River opposite Portimão with a small port and narrow alleys.
Rio Arade: Ferragudo

Ferragudo: Fishing port
The fishing port is situated on a small branch of the Arade river.
The square in the centre of the village is surrounded by restaurants and bistros. It is a popular place for all kinds of events.
The restaurant O Barril, offering grilled and other local specialties is located on a small lane behind the centre.
Small lanes with steep stairs lead to the old upper part of the village and the church.
Ferragudo: Parish Church
The church is situated in an elevated position, overlooking the estuary mouth of the river Arade.
The arduous path uphill is well worth the effort. There is a great view from the square in front of the church towards the river Arade. In the background you can see the hills of the Serra de Monchique.
Fresh fish is grilled in front of a restaurant situated on the river banks of the Arade.

Ferragudo: Fortaleza de São João
View from Praia da Rocha to the eastern shore of the river Arade. The fortress, now privately owned, was erected to protect the area against pirates. On the right hand side you find the main beach Praia de Ferragudo (formerly known as Praia Grande).
